Help
to train a new midwife - in less than one minute!
November 2004
Imagine that you live in a region four times the size of Wales,
where there is only one ill-equipped hospital. Imagine that
you live in an area where the infant mortality rate is a staggering
40% within the first year.
This is the situation faced by women living in the remote
Dritog region of China, and HiPP Organic baby foods have joined
forces with the charity 'Children in Crisis' to raise funds
for their Midwife Training Project in the region.
HiPP Organic aims to raise £5000 towards the project.
For every person that clicks on the 'Children in Crisis' Support
button on the HiPP website during November and December, HiPP
will donate 10 pence. "This is a project which will touch
the hearts of any woman who has experienced pregnancy or childbirth" says
Samantha Mort, Communications Manager for HiPP "It is
hard to comprehend the conditions which the women of Dritog
have to face."
"If every visitor to the HiPP website clicks the Support
button just once, we look set to make at least £2500
in the first month alone. We are confident that we can reach
our target of £5000".
The Midwife Training Project provides basic healthcare and
midwifery training for 50 young women from remote villages.
The girls then return to their communities and adopt the role
of healthcare trainer, midwife and 'district nurse'.
"The programme will reduce the number of deaths of both
mothers and babies in childbirth" says Belinda Greenwell,
spokesperson at Children in Crisis "This project will
provide potentially life saving training which will benefit
whole communities in the long term."
To support the CIC Midwife Training Project, readers should
follow the link on the HiPP home page at www.HiPP.co.uk during
November and December 2004. It will take less than one minute
to do.
