Organic production of Hipp Baby foods

HiPP's Organic Farming Methods
Nature not chemicals. Healthy soil, a strict ban on chemicals and lots of hard work. These are the most important elements of HiPP's organic agriculture.

At HiPP, we do all in our power to let our fruit, vegetables and cereals grow as naturally as possible.

Fields and orchards situated away from major roads and industry

No seed pre-treated with chemicals will be considered

Cows and their calves live on farms eating only organic feed. A natural, free range life makes them robust and sturdy

  • Fields and orchards situated away from major roads and industry. Even wind direction is accounted for to avoid airborne pollution
  • Soil sampled before sowing. Soil samples are taken and tests run to ensure that no harmful substances are present.
  • Natural, untreated seed stocks. We use only quality seed stocks. No seed pre-treated with chemicals will be considered
  • No chemical or synthetic sprays. This protects our ingredients and also maintains the balance of the soil and protects the ground water.
  • Natural treatments for pests and weeds. For example, we provide nesting boxes for songbirds to create ideal living conditions for the pests' natural enemies
  • Constant advice and checks. HiPP farmers receive assistance, advice and stringent quality control by HiPP from the moment of sowing to the peak of harvest
  • Animal rearing. A natural, free range life makes them robust and sturdy. No fattening agents are permitted, and unlike non-organic animals, they aren’t given routine antibiotics either. If animals need medical treatment, it is carried out in line with organic principles.
  • Animal Origins. We have full traceability of all our animals. Our beef cattle is ear-tagged and its origin is documented in every detail and checked for several generations.

Grown by Natural Methods
Chemical fertilisers and harmful synthetic pesticides are banned. We remove weeds by traditional mechanical and hand methods

Organic Vegetables

  • Chemical fertilisers and harmful synthetic pesticides are banned. We remove weeds by traditional mechanical and hand methods.
  • We protect the shoots and keep pests at bay by 'companion planting'. Decoy plants are used to attract pests away from the crops.
  • Potatoes are dusted with mineral powders to strengthen the plants, absorb humidity and prevent pest damage and rot.
  • Even the wind is used as a natural cleanser. Carrots are planted in exposed locations. The wind sweeping through the rows of plants prevents mildew and pest attacks.
Organic fruit

Organic Fruit

  • Insecticides are strictly forbidden and we control pests using natural methods. We make nesting places for birds and use ladybirds, who are pests' natural enemies.
  • HiPP organic bananas are fully ripened in the unspoiled highland jungles of Costa Rica and are grown without harmful synthetic sprays or fertilisers.
Hipp organic milk

Organic Milk

  • HiPP's milk formulas are produced according to the most up-to-date scientific developments. The organic milk used in their production comes from farms working strictly to our high organic standards.
  • You can be sure that everything our cows eat is natural and organic (in line with EU legislation).  Our dairy cattle are allowed out at pasture whenever possible and for as long as possible, in natural meadowland free from harmful mineral fertilizers, chemicals or synthetic spraying agents..
  • We can therefore guarantee that the animal feed is unpolluted and so is the milk.
Organic meat

Organic Meat

  • Beef: Our beef cattle, like our dairy herds, are strictly controlled in terms of traceability and animal husbandry. Each animal is tagged and bred only if its entire lifetime can be tracked. At HiPP we are strict about animal nutrition. Animal feeds and growth hormone promoters are banned and only organic grass, hay and cereals are used.
  • Pork: Free-range pigs are fed nutritionally-balanced organic cereals and have their health monitored by vets throughout their lifetime. The welfare of our livestock is of paramount importance, and where possible all our pigs live in open barns which means they can go outside at any time. The number of animals that live together is never too high for the size of barn and free-range area.
  • Chicken: HiPP organic chickens are fed an organic feed which has been grown to very strict controls. They are allowed to exercise freely to scratch about on the ground and to roll in sand.
  • Turkey: Our turkeys are also allowed to live as nature intended. They live out in the open air, have lots of exercise and of course only eat organic cereal.

Frequently asked Question

  • How can your jars of baby foods have such a long shelf life but not contain any artificial preservatives?
  • The food in our jars is sterilised within vacuum-sealed jars during the jarring process, and this sterilisation ensures that no food spoilage will occur through growth of bacteria or moulds. The integrity of the vacuum seal therefore guarantees the quality of our products.
  • This same guarantee of food safety could not be achieved if you tried to preserve home-cooked baby foods. If vegetable or fruit purees were put in jars at home, there would still be air in the jar, which could result in the growth of microorganisms such as moulds in the food. Also, you would not be able to achieve the same high temperatures during the heat preservation stage as we do this under pressure.
