HiPP - Organic since 1956

Established originally at the end of the 19th century by a German confectioner named Joseph Hipp, the baby food side of the business was developed and set up as a separate operation by his son Georg in 1932.

In 1956, when most farmers were going over to intensive farming, Georg Hipp converted the family farm into one of the first organic farms in Europe.

Today HiPP is one of the largest organic producers in the world.

Always the Highest Quality

Because of our long organic tradition, and our size, we have established our own tried and trusted suppliers who grow organic foods to our rigorous specifications.
Unlike smaller companies, HiPP does not have to rely on unknown organic quality and the uncertainties of the marketplace - we control our own highest quality organic ingredients. That means we know exactly where and how every ingredient was grown - and even the field it was grown in!

Why is organic so important for your baby?

Babies’ bodies are young and vulnerable – their organs, immune systems and other vital body systems are developing, so it is important they have the purest and safest foods. A pure, organic diet can be more beneficial during the first few months of life than at any other time.

Non-organic foods may contain harmful chemical pesticide residues and other unwanted extras which can build up in the body.

  • Your baby's digestive system is more efficient than an adult's at absorbing foods - this is good where nutrients are concerned , but not so good when it comes to harmful pesticide residues
  • Babies' kidneys are immature and not very efficient at excreting harmful substances, so toxins remain longer in the body
  • The 'acceptable' levels of pesticide residues permitted in foods are based on adult bodyweights - not on the smaller size of babies and children.

'Choosing to feed your baby organically may be the single most important way to give them the best start in life'.Dr Vyvyan Howard, MB ChB PhD FRC Path., University of Liverpool.

Did you know?

Pesticides are found on one in three non-organic foods tested each year. A non-organic apple can be sprayed up to 16 times with 36 different chemicals (many of which cannot be washed off, no matter how hard you try). Pesticides were found in 80% of non-organic apple samples in government tests.

The Benefits of Organic

Better Nutrition

Organic foods on average contain higher levels of vitamin C and essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium as well as protective antioxidants and Omega 3.

Results of a major study, published at the end of 2007, show that organic food is more nutritious and may even help fight cancer. The project was carried out by Professor Carlo Leifert at Newcastle University. It was found that organic fruit and vegetables contained up to 40% more antioxidants, which could cut the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Prof Leifert said the effect of eating organic foods would be the equivalent of having one extra portion of fruit and vegetables every day.

Better Taste

Eating organically means enjoying foods and ingredients that are bursting with taste and flavour - without risking harmful pesticides, nitrates, growth hormones or other unwanted extras.

Better For The Environment

There is also evidence that animals given organic feeds tend to be healthier than animals fed conventional feeds.

Organic farming is not only better for the animals, it is better for the environment. Organic farms are much more compatible with wildlife and land conservation programs.

HiPP Organic range - quality Assurance

At every stage in the growing processes and the preparation of our foods, milks and drinks, you can trust HiPP for the very highest quality control standards.

A stringent quality control programme goes from soil testing, through analysis of raw materials to checking the finished product.

Up to 260 quality checks are carried out before products leave our factory. Any problem results in rejection of the entire batch.

How we Maintain our quality

  • One of the best laboratories in Europe. Our laboratory is a world leader in residue analysis. Our tests are so thorough that we could detect a single grain of salt in an olympic sized swimming pool!
  • Craftsman and technology. Our production teams work with the most modern manufacturing technology. Overseeing this technology, human specialists add the personal touch. For example, HiPP staff remove any dark rice grains individually from the conveyor belt using special mini suction machines. Sometimes the human eye is the best tool!
  • Ongoing checks. Samples from the production line are taken at regular intervals for checks on consistency, vitamin content, apperance, aroma and taste.

Getting our products safely to you

  • Jar quality. Safety is of prime importance to us. That is why we use only the newly manufactured glass jars which are checked for imperfections before they are filled. Our jars are of course fully recyclable after use.
  • Vacuum sealed. Vacuum filling guarantees that the jar is sealed and the contents are stiil sterile. This is how we ensure our products stay fresh, without using any added perservatives. All jars receive a final vacuum seal check before dispatch.
  • Batch numbers. After filling and sealing, each lid is given a batch number. This means that the individual jar can be checked back through the entire process to identify the field, meadow, orchard or animal of origin, including day of harvesting, preparation and packaging. We offer total accountability on every single product that you can buy.
