- Although there’s less room to move around, your baby is still very active
- With the eyes developing rapidly, your baby is now able to sense changes in light
- The skin on your baby’s face becomes smoother and less wrinkled
- Your baby now measures about 26cm (just over 10 inches) from crown to rump and weighs around 1.1kg (just under 2½ lb)
Your baby growing in your tummy can make things quite uncomfortable at times. Lower backache is quite common, and that’s without the baby pressing on your bladder or sticking a foot in your ribs, or doing gymnastics! When the baby turns over, you might see and feel a head, foot or bottom travelling across your tummy. It’s a strange sensation.
It can also be quite hard for you to get comfortable at night. Try using extra pillows propped around you and, when on your side, put a pillow between your knees.
Omega 3 & 6 LCPs
Between weeks 29 and 33 is the time when your baby's brain goes through a rapid development phase. As the brain's surface area expands, your baby's thought power is growing as well. At this developmental stage the brain starts controlling the body temperature and primitive breathing.
This is the time when you need to make sure your intake of Omega 3 & 6 LCPs is plentiful as they are very important for your baby's brain development. Find out more information about LCPs and their importance in our healthy eating during pregnancy section.

You could start your maternity leave from this week, but remember the sooner you begin your maternity leave the less time you will have once your baby arrives. Weigh up all your options and discuss it with your partner, friends and family before making any decisions on when to begin your leave.
From this week you may also be eligible to claim the Sure Start Maternity Grant. Click here for more information.
