What to put in your hospital bag

mum and new babyDuring the last few weeks of your pregnancy, you’ll want to have your hospital bag all ready packed and stored somewhere handy, such as near the front door. Here’s a checklist to help you plan the things you need:

  • Check there's always petrol in the car ready for the off
  • Have a list of the phone numbers you might need
  • Some loose change or a phone card (you may not be able to use mobiles inside the hospital)
  • Pyjamas or nightie
  • Dressing gown
  • Slippers
  • Toilet bag, towel, make up and knickers
  • Maternity pads or sanitary towels - for after the birth
  • Nursing bra and breast pads
  • Clothes and nappies for the baby
  • Face wipes
  • Mini fan
  • Personal music player
  • Books or magazines
  • Bed socks - to avoid chilly feet
  • Lip salve
  • Sandwiches, snacks and drinks for your partner
  • Drinks and a snack for you after the birth
  • Camera or video camera, plus spare batteries
  • Baby car seat
  • Print page
