The biggest change is that DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), a type of omega 3 fatty acid usually sourced from fish oil is becoming mandatory in all infant and follow on formulas.

Although all of Hipp infant milks contain DHA, Hipp follow on milk currently does not, so will be added as a new ingredient and a new allergen.

There will also be changes to the levels of some vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in line with the legislation update.

All our affected products will be changing from March onwards. You will be able to tell the new products as they will have a pink flash on the front of pack stating ‘new recipe’.

It is perfectly safe to change your baby onto the new formula straight away. However some babies may take a little time to settle onto the new formula because of the formulation changes, however minor. We recommend that you give your baby time to settle, and speak to your healthcare professional if you are at all concerned.

There are very minor differences in smell and taste, so your baby may notice these initially, but they should settle onto the new formula quickly. We recommend that you speak to your healthcare professional if you are at all concerned.

No, there are no changes to our preparation instructions, so please continue to follow the preparation instructions on the packs as you always have.

All products with new formulations have a round pink flash on the pack stating ‘new recipe’. Hipp follow on milk will also include a new allergen notice within the pink flash on pack.

Yes. We take our responsibility for feeding babies extremely seriously, and the safety of our products is our primary concern. We have updated our formulas in line with new EU legislation, which is based on recommendations from the European Food Safety Authority. All ingredients used in infant and follow on formula are certified as safe by EFSA before they can be used.

The EU legislation covers all infant and follow on formula, but does not include growing up milks. For this reason, our growing up milks are not changing in line with the other products.

Follow-on formula has been developed to reflect the nutritional needs of infants from 6-12 months, as they move to a mixed weaning diet.

Once weaning has started, infants have a greater need for iron and follow on formula contains higher levels of iron compared to infant formula, as well as some other essential vitamins and minerals.

The composition of Hipp follow-on milk is similar to that of Hipp infant milk with the exception of some key nutrients such as iron, calcium and vitamin C.

Iron and calcium, which are important nutrients that growing babies need when they move onto solid foods. Iron contributes to normal cognitive development of children whilst calcium is needed for normal growth and development of bones in children.
